The 90secs rule… More so for everyday practice rather than for the exams but can be very helpful.

Have you ever heard of the 90secs rule used in General Practice?

Ask, "How can I help you today?" and then allow the patient to speak for 90secs. Listen to understand rather than to respond. Listen with curiosity. The main aim is to get ALL the underlying agendas out, connect, and build rapport.  Not easy but give it a try.

Having said that, for the purpose of the OSCE exam, I personally don’t use this method. I would ask “What are you hoping to achieve from today?  Do you have a list for me?” And list them down.
